The US Attorney’s Office asked Judge Brian Cogan to sentence the ex-leader of the Sinaloa cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, to life imprisonment plus 30 years in prison at the hearing scheduled for July 17.

The US government asked Judge Cogan to order that the victims be compensated with an amount of money that has not yet been established. In documents presented Wednesday, it stands out that for 30 years the Mexican drug trafficker, who was convicted last February, “committed crimes and obstructed justice.”

Federal prosecutors argued that the sentence of life imprisonment plus another 30 years in prison would be “just punishment” and would be a deterrent to other criminals who “believe they are above the law.”
