Those who were in contact with the three Italian tourists who were in Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus and who in the last few hours have been confirmed as the first cases of Covid-19 in Cuba, carry out the corresponding epidemiological actions.

“They have all been placed under clinical and epidemiological surveillance to see if symptoms appear. In the event that in the next few days they have any clinical symptoms, they will undergo a nasopharyngeal swab and, if confirmed, they will go to the Villa Clara Military Hospital, as established in the Plan for the prevention and control of Covid-19 Rivero Abella said.

According to the doctor, if the contacts are maintained without clinical symptoms, they will return to their homes, where they will be kept under extreme surveillance by epidemiologists and the basic health area team.

Of the four Italian tourists who arrived in Cuba on March 9, and who arrived in Trinidad the following day, three were confirmed with Covid-19 and so far, according to the Ministry of Public Health, they are without danger to life. .

In the province, the strategy for the treatment of suspicious cases is designed, which ranges from the empowerment of specialized consultations in all health institutions to the availability of 42 beds for isolation.

Now the population must increase their perception of risk, know the basic information on the subject and take extreme hygiene measures as a guarantee of prevention.

According to the scientific literature, people 80 years of age and over are the most dangerous to life, along with those suffering from certain chronic diseases.

Among the pre-existing conditions that influence the increased risk of acute complications with greater weight are cardiovascular diseases, followed by diabetes, chronic respiratory disease and high blood pressure.

80 percent of Covid-19 infections are mild, 13.8 percent severe and 4.7 reach the critical stage, which is expressed, among other manifestations, in severe and multi-organ respiratory failure, and septic shock.

Men are more likely to die than women, and the incubation period, that is, the time it takes for clinical symptoms to appear after contracting the disease, varies from one to 14 days, although the general average is estimated to be between three and five.

For some unknown reason, infants’ immune systems appear to be less susceptible to Covid-19.
