2021: 55 años de la Misión de Puerto Rico en Cuba
Entrevista exclusiva con Edwin González Vázquez, delegado de la misión puertorriqueña en La Habana.
“Yo no me siento extranjera:/ bajo este cielo cubano / cada ser es un hermano / que en mi corazón impera”. La poetisa y patriota puertorriqueña Dolores Rodríguez de Tió recogió en su poema “A Cuba” los nexos entrañables entre ambas naciones caribeñas.
Una hermandad que se consolida este año con la celebración del aniversario 55 de la Misión de Puerto Rico en Cuba. Fundada el ocho de marzo de 1966 por el líder de la Revolución, Fidel Castro y Juan Mari Brás, líder del Partido Pro Independencia y del Partido Socialista de Puerto Rico, el organismo refuerza los nexos históricos cada día en un constante intercambio con diversas instituciones y entidades.
«Desde este espacio se potencia la lucha contra el colonialismo que persiste en el mundo», dijo en entrevista exclusiva para Canal Caribe, Edwin González Vázquez, delegado de la misión puertorriqueña en La Habana.

«Seguimos resistiendo como país en una lucha centenaria y en desventaja», comentó González Vázquez. Son 121 años de colonialismo al pasar de un imperio (España) a otro (Estados Unidos) a quien fue cedido el país en 1899. El estatus de colonia persiste en esa condición impuesta desde 1952 cuando fue declarado como Estado Libre Asociado a EE.UU.»
«Más de seis décadas después, tenemos un Puerto Rico desconocido, desprestigiado y en una gran crisis económica, lo cual desmantela el intento de seducir a otras naciones de la región con la ilusión de la llamada “Vitrina del Caribe”, afirma el boricua.
Puerto Rico: lucha e identidad
Aunque desde la Casa Blanca insisten en que este es un asunto interno de Estados Unidos y que no le compete a nadie más, cada vez son más los que creen que el destino de los puertorriqueños no puede ser determinado por Washington, aseguró.
«El hecho de que la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CELAC) nos reconozca como país latinoamericano y caribeño es una victoria», enfatizó González Vázquez.
Ese reclamo ha sido llevado también al Comité Especial de Descolonización de Naciones Unidas que ha adoptadas cerca de 40 resoluciones y decisiones sobre Puerto Rico, en las que se ratifica el derecho inalienable de ese pueblo a la libre determinación y a la independencia.
“La batalla contra el colonialismo no es un asunto solo de Puerto Rico, le compete a todos los que amen la libertad y la justicia en el mundo” expresó el luchador independentista.

Más allá de su poder militar económico y de la relación intervencionista dictada desde la Casa Blanca, Estados Unido no lograr sofocar ese orgullo de nación que persiste en la identidad cultural, en las protestas y denuncias y en la defensa a ultranza de su lengua oficial, el español, una muestra de coraje y perseverancia.
Próxima a cumplir sus 55 años, la Misión de Puerto Rico en Cuba, organismos de base del Movimiento Pro-Independencia del país boricua en La Habana, devienen embajada de buena voluntad y dan continuidad a las relaciones históricas entre ambos países.
